Navigating Business Travel Emotions: Supportive Stays at Celador Apartments
18 April 2022
Working away from home can be an emotional rollercoaster.
We regularly welcome guests from Hong Kong, India, Saudi Arabia, as well as from other parts of the UK, who stay with us in Reading, so we are aware of the different emotions people face working away from home.
From the initial excitement of being away from home, to loneliness and disorientation, as well as a sense of freedom and independence - while working away from home may not be easy at first, it is also likely to be a worthwhile and memorable experience.

Here are some of the main emotions you may experience when staying away from home on business:
Excitement
Working in a new environment can be an exciting and refreshing change. If you’re usually stuck in the office or on the same site for the majority of the year, getting the chance to work from somewhere else can be an interesting adventure. You may not have visited your new location before, so getting to know the local area and exploring what your new town or city has to offer is sure to prove an exciting experience.
Disorientation
That being said, with the excitement of exploring somewhere new, comes the disorientation of being somewhere unknown. You may experience disorientation not only in regards to your surroundings but also your routine. With the familiarities of your day-to-day routine at home gone, you may find yourself working later or earlier, and your routine around work disrupted. Try to get into a new routine as close to your usual one, as soon as possible, to ease feelings of disorientation.
Loneliness
It is completely normal to feel lonely when you are far away from loved ones. Try and keep in contact with friends and family by arranging regular catch-ups or Facetimes. If you are travelling with colleagues, arrange activities with them such as going for a drink, grabbing some food or visiting a local attraction. Staying social helps to keep loneliness at bay, so try to avoid spending too much time isolated in your room, and plan activities and things to do around your working hours.
Independence
Free from the confines of your HQ, having the opportunity to represent the company on business shows a strong sense of trust from your employer. With the freedom to explore a new location, meet new colleagues and maybe even immerse yourself in a new culture, you are likely to feel a strong sense of independence and freedom.
Providing you stick to a routine, keep in touch with loved ones, and make an effort to explore the local area and get to know work colleagues, there is no reason why you shouldn’t have a great trip working away from home. To make settling in that little bit easier, our dedicated Guest Services Manager will personally meet you when you arrive, regardless of the time, to show you around your new home-from-home and answer any questions. They will be on hand throughout your stay to assist you in any way possible to ensure that you enjoy your time staying with us. We are committed to offering a
