For Breakfast: Café Yolk
Loved by locals, Café Yolk lets you eat like a king for breakfast, serving their morning specialities all day, every day. From simple eggs with toast to a traditional full English with locally sourced sausages and bacon, there's something for everyone at this cosy East Reading establishment.
If you have a sweet tooth, the pancakes are delicious and come with the choice of a variety of toppings, including fresh berries, banana and chocolate, or classic maple syrup. The portion sizes are generous, making it perfect for a hearty start to your day.
Or, if you can't decide, the aptly named 'Indecisive' breakfast allows you to build your own meal from scratch, choosing from their extensive selection of breakfast items. Located just a short walk from Palmer Park, it's a perfect spot for a weekend brunch before exploring the local area.
For Coffee: Coffee Under Pressure
Ranked as one of the
50 best coffee shops in the UK
by independent coffee reviewers, Coffee Under Pressure has two convenient locations in central Reading that offer speciality brews, served up by friendly baristas who know their craft inside and out.
Their original shop on Duke Street maintains a cult following, whilst their newer location in the Oracle shopping centre provides a welcome respite from retail therapy. Both venues offer a rotating selection of single-origin beans, with pour-over and cold brew options for the coffee aficionados.
The perfect place to pick up a coffee on the way to work, meet a friend or colleague, or even to take your laptop and do a bit of work amongst the trendy, minimalistic décor. Their pastries are sourced from local bakeries, with vegan and gluten-free options always available.
Family Sunday Lunch: London Street Brasserie
This award-winning restaurant next to the River Kennet has lovely roast dinners that don't disappoint, making it a Reading institution for the quintessential British Sunday lunch experience.
All roasts are served with large, fluffy Yorkshire puddings and all of the delicious trimmings, with ingredients sourced from local independent butchers, fishmongers and greengrocers. The beef is aged for 28 days, while the lamb comes from farms in the nearby Berkshire countryside.
The restaurant's riverside location provides a picturesque backdrop for your meal, with outdoor seating available in warmer months. The attentive staff and relaxed atmosphere make it family-friendly without compromising on quality. This is the perfect spot to enjoy a Sunday Roast overlooking the river, though booking ahead is essential as tables fill up quickly.
After Work Drinks: Market House
The casual, relaxed atmosphere of Market House makes it the perfect place to unwind with colleagues after work. Located in the heart of Reading's town centre, this converted historic building offers a unique blend of bar, restaurant and social space across three levels.
With tasty cocktails crafted by experienced mixologists, a roof terrace offering views across the town, as well as numerous street food outlets to pick from, Market House is a great place to grab a weeknight drink or two. The rotating selection of craft beers includes options from local breweries alongside international favourites.
Weekend Meal Out: Veeno
A fun and classy wine bar near the station, Veeno is one of the best places to eat in Reading for those seeking an authentic Italian experience. Inspired by all things Italian, the food menu at Veeno is authentic and delicious, perfect for pairing with any and all bottles from their extensive wine list.
Their wine-tasting experiences are particularly popular, offering a guided tour through different Italian regions and their characteristic wines. The sharing boards of Italian charcuterie and cheese provide the perfect accompaniment to your chosen wine.
The intimate lighting and comfortable seating create a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere, ideal for date nights or special occasions. Their knowledgeable staff are always happy to recommend pairings, making it accessible even for those new to wine appreciation.
