Things to Do in Reading This Christmas (2022)

16 November 2022

If you’re staying in Reading over the Christmas period, it’s likely you’ll be looking for some festive activities. Here are a few of our favourite Christmas events taking place in Reading this December.

Reading’s Winter Wonderland

Berkshire's largest annual Christmas event since 2014 is set to return in 2022. At Reading's Winter Wonderland, visitors can enjoy more than 20 rides and attractions, including an ice rink, an Apres ski bar, and Santa's Grotto. In addition to festive stalls, there is a range of seasonal food and drink such as German sausages, mulled wine, and winter cocktails. Winter Wonderland is located in Hills Meadow by Reading Bridge and entry is completely free.

The Reading Lantern Parade

Walk together in the lantern lights and follow the glowing fireflies as they dance along Broad Street to Forbury Gardens. This will be a heartwarming celebration of the festive season filled with lights, music and community spirit, on the 10th of December.
Leading up to the event, lantern-making workshops will be held across Reading so that everybody has the opportunity to make their own beautiful willow and paper lanterns.

A Christmas Carol

From 30 November to 31 December, Reading Rep Theatre will perform the original Christmas tale by Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol. Take a trip back in time to Victorian England to meet Ebenezer Scrooge and follow him as he interacts with the ghosts of the Christmas past, present, and future.

Lights & Liminality at Basildon House

Experience Basildon House, a Grade I National Trust property, transformed into a Winter Wonderland as nature is brought indoors.
For a festive stroll among the trees, the grounds have also been transformed into an illuminated woodland trail.

Jack and the Beanstalk

Starring Justin Fletcher & Paul Morse, Jack and the Beanstalk is a childhood favourite story. Join Jack on his journey to find and defeat the giant, win the heart of the girl he loves and turn the Trots’ fortunes around. From the 3 Dec 2022-2 Jan 2022, at The Hexagon.
