Jul 04, 2022

Wondering where to stay for your next business stay or longer-term trip?

It’s been an exciting couple of months for Reading as two new transport links open, benefitting residents and workers in Reading. The long-awaited Elizabeth Line finally opened in May and Green Park station opened in June, improving transport links and showcasing Reading as an up-and-coming destination for businesses, commuters and living.

The capita l’s new Crossrail service, the Elizabeth Line, finally opened in May. The line runs from Reading to Shenfield in Essex and Abbey Wood in Southeast London, giving passengers from Reading a faster commute, and from 2023, a seamless transition into central or East London. This will make commuting not only easier but faster, strengthening Reading’s links to London and as a rising hotspot for commuters.

Green Park Station Opening

Green Park train station opened last month, improving accessibility and connecting commuters to Green Park Business Park. It will also benefit residents of Green Park Village and Reading Football Club supporters, whilst reducing congestion on the A33 motorway by offering an alternative, sustainable mode of travel.

The new station is predicted to create up to 7,500 new jobs and 1,500 new homes by improving access to Green Park. It will become the new station at the top of the Reading to Basingstoke line, with two trains per hour. Travellers can now reach Reading in six minutes, Basingstoke in 20, Paddington in 40 (via Reading), Canary Wharf in 60 and Southampton in 60 (via Basingstoke).

With many international companies already having moved to Reading, including Amazon UK, Virgin Media and KPMG, both the Elizabeth Line and Green Park Station are set to further increase the migration of international corporations, commuters and workers to Berkshire. With reasonably priced homes, a fast commute, as well as lots of green space and more, the opening of these new transport links highlights Reading as both an extremely desirable and convenient place to live.
